The end of Normal

July - September 2015

During the summer i participated in a group project hosted by Tent in Rotterdam. In two months we, young creatives, experimented with public performances, visited artists and got to know everything about street parades. The main goal was that we would make our own parade with artist Mette Sterre in the first week of September at the festival of the Witte the With.

At the Zomer carnaval, when Rotterdam’s most exotic side comes up, we performed in Tent at the front room. All of us were covered under a golden thermal blanket. This material is special because of it’s color, thinness and most of all the one side transparency. So as we creeped over the floor, like weird machines, no one could see us but we could see everything. The inhumane expression was seen as “vacuum cleaners”, and “golden rocks”.

The next fase, when we made the real parade, was intense and exciting. For many of us the power of the digital presence is intense and remarkable. It is taking over! We reflected and built our performance upon that. Every costume had it’s own function in the digital world. Mine represented (sexual) spam, but also browsing, selfies and data leaking were subjected.
